It’s Christmas Day, and the holiday marks for me the first anniversary of The Catcher in the Sand. I started the blog one year with the intention to experiment with the media and share my experiences with friends and people who have similar interests with mine. I was inspired by many other good blogs that friends and people who I never met were using to share their passions, knowledge and experiences but I need to mention specifically one – Updates, Live hold by my friend Pierre, who hosted for many years my articles until I decided to start The Catcher.

Like many other journeys in the Internet, building The Catcher in the Sand, proved to be more challenging, more interesting, more demanding that I expected and provided me with satisfactions while taking me to places I did not expect to get to when I started. 256 entries were read by almost 20,000 people. The monthly average of visitors numbers reached 2000 during the last months. People from 92 countries accessed at least one page on the blog. The top 4 countries in visitors numbers are the United States, Israel, Romania and Canada, the last 4 of the 92 are Qatar, Iraq, Georgia, Panama. California and New York are the two top states in America when it comes to the number of pages accessed, Givatayim and Tel Aviv the top two cities in Israel. The average time spent on the site is 57 seconds which is not bad – some people really read this stuff. And some of them even comment, and I will be happy to receive more comments, critics and proposals for improvement on the blog, on Internet lists and on my private mail.

English is the principal language of The Catcher, but Romanian is also used. Most of my friends who speak Romanian also speak English, but just a few of my English-speaking friends understand Romanian. Although it is (still) easier for me to speak and write Romanian then any other language, I am using it on the blog only when I write about Romanian literature, when I bring articles that first appeared on other Romanian language sites, or when my guests prefer Romanian. Speaking about guests, I have hosted contributions from a few friends during the last year and will continue to do it in the future but most of the material is mine, written by me, and speaking about my experiences in art, literature, movies, travel and other of my fields of interest. There will be very little or none here about politics or about my professional life, not because these are not important, quite the opposite – these are the most important and they catch most of my time, and these is why The Catcher in the Sand is reserved for hobbies and passions out of my professional life, and politics aside. This aims to be the place where I am experimenting with this form of Internet communications and sharing my extra-professional interests. This aims to be a place that confirms my belief that the Internet (whose technical part is my profession) can be a wonderful thing if people use it for the good reasons.

Esti, dintre toti oamenii pe care-i cunosc, cel mai deschis catre toate orizonturile, cel mai dornic sa afli cat mai multe, cel mai generos in a impartasi celorlalti descoperirile,impresiile si parerile tale.Te admir SI pentru aceasta disponibilitate intelectuala maxima si pentru dragostea de frumos in taote formele lui (muzica, literatura, arta plastica, arhitectura, peisaj, film, etc. SI-ul cu litere mari vrea sa spuna ca asta este numai unul dintre aspectele personalitatii tale care imi inspira respect si simpatie.
